I can’t believe it’s already August! Despite not having the summer off, I do get some flexibility with work (I am currently on a “Summer Friday” working from a coffee shop off the Main Line), and I need to take full advantage before Labor Day.
My work schedule allows me to take every other Friday off, given I work an extra hour the other 9 business days. This means I get a TON of 3-day weekends over the summer that do not go against my vacation days!
So with this final month of 3-day weekends (and overall summer events), I wanted to share my August schedule that will surely become blog posts.
This weekend: Today is my day off, so I went to Pure Barre, am at Gryphon Cafe, & will spend my afternoon either at the pool if the thunderstorms hold off (reading “The Matchmaker” by Elin Hildebrand”, shopping at Suburban Square, or worst case scenario – napping during the storm)…
We have a lounge day tomorrow – which will hopefully lead to a trip downtown or somewhere new! BUT, we are saving all our energy for Sunday…one of Kyle’s clients at work is Pocono Raceway and guess what? We are going to the race Sunday…should be interesting.
Next Weekend: Unfortunately we don’t have Friday off, but we are heading after work to Penn State for our first time with friends. It’ll be interesting to go over the summer when school isn’t in session (I’m sure it’ll be MUCH quieter), but I’m hoping we can go to the creamery for ice cream & get a tour of campus. Anything else we just HAVE to do up in Happy Valley?
Aug 15-17: I will be reuniting with my good friends from high school (CNXC For Life!) for a girls’ weekend on Lake Monroe. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never been to Lake Monroe, so I’m very excited for a weekend in a cabin, with some of my longest & best friends, relaxing on the lake & catching up. These are forever friends. And despite life getting in the way sometimes (and us not living in the same states), we always pick up right where we left off.
Aug 22-24: Thankfully no plans BUT I will be prepping for my first “book club” night on Aug 25 with an “Emmy’s” theme (since the Emmy’s are on at 8PM EST on Aug 25!!) – any fun ideas are much appreciated! I’ve seen “Oscar” parties, but I’m hoping since I watch more TV than movies (since Chicago movie prices were OUTRAGEOUS), that it’ll be more entertaining! And for those interested in the book club book of the month – “Looking for Alaska” by John Green.
Aug 28-31: It all culminates with our Labor Day vacation up to Portland, Maine. It honestly is the best thing ever that we live within driving distance of the ENTIRE East Coast…we have plans to stay in Connecticut (just 5 miles from ESPN headquarters for Kyle), stop in Portsmouth, NH & end with a few days in Portland, Maine. I’ve never been to New Hampshire or Maine (bringing the # of states I’ve visited up to 35!!!). Any fun things to do or places to eat would be appreciated!
I’m SOO excited for this month!!! What are your August Adventures??
