Kyle & I became members of Conner Prairie shortly after attending their annual “Festival of Machines” – a massive “Touch a Truck” type event for honestly people of all ages. I had attended Conner Prairie as a kid from a school field trip and always remember how unique it was & fun for kids. Known as an “interactive history park”, kids can go back in time to 1863 to see the Civil War, or 1836 to Prairietown to visit the blacksmith or pottery shop, or venture up into the sky with the tethered hot air balloon on the 1859 balloon voyage. Membership is pretty affordable, $110 for a family membership (2 adults & all kids under 21).
All volunteers at the park are in character – doing chores, explaining their life, and letting kids partake in these fun activities like making your own candle.
One of Aidan’s favorite parts is the Animal Encounter exhibit with goats, sheep, chickens, & cows roaming around (with volunteers) for kids to pet & feed. Aidan is still terrified, don’t get me wrong (we have SUCH a terrified child), but he is continuing to warm up to all the animals & loves to point them out and stare and make Kyle & I pet them all.
The main attraction for kids Aidan’s age (I’d argue great for kids under 5…) is the Treetop Outpost!! It has a place for kids to dig, play on drums, make a teepee fort, climb up high into the tree to look out a telescope, cross a suspension bridge, and so much more. We could (and often do…) spend most of our visits hanging at the Treetop. And when your little one gets bored with the treetops, head on out to the rest of Prairietown to explore life back in the 1800s!
And I must say, nothing beats spending the day out in the fresh air, with some shade thank goodness! In honor of the 4th of July weekend I rocked my red, white & blue – Blu-Red Lipsense (2 layers, 1 layer Bombshell), Current Elliott V-Neck & J.Crew shorts. PERFECT outfit for a day in the trees!
Get my Current Elliott V-Neck T-shirt in black for only $29.97 (I’m wearing a size 1 which is currently sold out – recommend size 0 for anyone traditionally XS-S!) at Nordstrom Rack!!!
