As I mentioned in my last post about date nights, Kyle & I try to get out often and leave Aidan with a babysitter. I have a running list of restaurants in the local area I want to try, and we try to spend our date night checking out someplace new!
A couple places on my Indy bucket list included Bakersfield (yes, for all you Indy locals – we had never been there before!) and Union 50. I heard the margaritas at Bakersfield were incredible so we opted for pre-dinner drinks & appetizers there and then dinner at Union 50.
We may have over done it at Bakersfield – ordering both queso & guac…washed down with a pineapple margarita (this is all pre-pregnancy of course…oh how I’ve been dreaming of that margarita recently…)! We sat at the bar inside which had a fun vibe and was pretty crowded considering it was fairly early for a Saturday night. You know, us old folks with kids go out at like 6PM so we can be in bed by 9PM….
After making our way to Union 50, we were immediately impressed by the ambiance. While still relatively quiet given the time of day, Union 50 has an industrial feel with a pretty incredible bar area that takes up almost the entire length of the restaurant.
I got the fish special with a pineapple salsa (you know, to keep up with my pineapple margarita), Kyle got the roasted chicken, and we split the duck fat + rosemary fries. You can choose two sauces so we ordered the garlic truffle aioli & house ketchup. Next time, either get double the garlic truffle aioli (it’s really all you need!) or try the beer cheese!!!
We ended our meal with a plate of truffles, which we didn’t document because we ate them so fast. Best dessert ever. Definitely definitely try it!!!
We had such a fun date night & recommend both Bakersfield or Union 50 next time you’re downtown Indianapolis!!!
